Five years ago, owner/executive chef Alain Bennouna introduced the second instal lment of Zitoune restaurant to Westchester county. By combining Morocco's rich, family-centered culinary tradition with more familiar French and American recipes, Mr. Bennouna's 'Moroccan Nouveau' menu had already established the original Zitoune as a hallmark of New York City's fusion food movement. Since coming to Mamaroneck, Zitoune has won the Best of Westchester five years in a row, earning star reviews from Zagat, Open Table, and the New York Times. The latter even described the food as "homey but also elegant, and a bit exotic, as though Mr. Bennouna were throwing a big, themed dinner party."
Zitoune operates on the philosophy that food is one-third of the dining experience, along with service and décor. As a family restaurant, Zitoune houses a staff of friendly and welcoming service professionals who are always prepared to answer questions about Moroccan cuisine and culture. One customer compared her experience to "spending the night in a good friend's dining room." The difference is that this dining room is adorned with intricate, arabesque tile, and rare, hand-made crafts and textiles, all imported from Marrakesh markets by the owner himself. Combined with the copper-topped tables and gorgeous lounge area, these qualities make Zitoune the ideal destination for special events, celebrations, and parties.
Mr. Bennouna has lived in New York for 31 years. He feels it is only natural that his art reflect the interaction of cultures that has shaped him. With Zitoune, and Moroccan Nouveau, he invites you to take part in the adventure. |
